    Melt Shop

At the technologically advanced Melt Shop, steel is produced in the form of square cross section prisms (billets). The basic production stages of the steel making process include melting of steel scrap, secondary metallurgy (fine adjustments to steel composition) and continuous casting of molten steel. Halyvourgiki’s Melt Shop is considered to be one of the most comprehensive and technologically advanced plants in Europe, with the ability to produce a wide range of steel grades and to meet the strictest standards.

The Melt Shop includes the following main equipment:

    • Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF), with 100-ton capacity each, for the melting of steel scrap.
    • A Ladle Furnace (LF) where Secondary metallurgy takes place (fine adjustments to the steel composition).
    • Continuous Casting Machines with the required auxiliary equipment.
    • A fully automated Water Treatment Plant utilising Best Available Technique (BAT).
    • Fume Treatment Plants of Best Available Technique (BAT).
    The products are:
    • Billets of a cross section 130 mm x 130mm and a length of 6-12 m.
    • Billets of a cross section 140 mm x 140mm and a length of 6-12 m.
