The Environmental culture adopted by our Company considers the human, cultural, and natural environment as an investment rather as an expense.

Aiming towards sustainable development the Company does not merely comply with current regulatory environmental requirements but proceeds further by committing itself to constantly and actively improve the environment.

In prompt response to the requirements of Law 2965/2001 concerning the viable development of Attica , our company recently proceeded to one of the greatest investments in Greece for the complete upgrade of its installations. At the same time our company realised its environmental vision by selecting the Best Available Techniques (BAT) for the steel industry, which are considered to be environmentally friendly. More than a third of the investments concern the protection of the environment.

Having environmental conscience and respect towards the human, cultural, and natural environment, Halyvourgiki proceeded to environmental investments, which amounted to 32 million Euros. These include:

• Technologically advanced fume treatment plants (BAT) where suspended particles are trapped within 4080 bag-filters.
• Two new fully automated Water Treatment Plants for water processing, one for the Melt Shop and one for the Rolling Mill (BAT), where cooling water is recycled.
• Fully automated sewage treatment plants to treat the wastewater originating from the offices. The effluent from the sewage treatment plants is used for watering the numerous eucalyptus trees on the company’s premises.
• Exclusive use of natural gas.
• Equipment to perform environmental measurements.
• Waste management projects, special transportation and cleaning equipment.

Halyvourgiki is considered to be a major recycling unit as the raw material used is steel scrap.

Our company has developed and applies a complete Environmental Management System according to the Standard ELOT EN ISO 14001:2004 which has being certified by the Hellenic Organization for Standardization (ELOT SA). The company implements and maintains procedures for the complete management of all wastes, which are based on approved environmental assessments. All types of waste, from the paper used in the offices to the slag produced in the Melt Shop, are disposed of by Waste Management Companies licensed by the state’s Organizations.

• To recycle / re - use / and exploit all waste quantities.
• To activate the environmental conscience of the employees through constant training.
• To constantly comply with the relevant environmental legislation and other requirements.
• To continually improve our environmental performance while at the same time to minimize our environmental impacts.
• The reinforcement of pollution prevention processes.
• The daily effort to reduce electricity, fuel and water consumption.
