    Chemical properties - Weldability

    In order to ensure weldable steel of grade S500s, there are limitations with regards to the content of certain elements.

    Steel is considered to be weldable when the maximum content of carbon, sulfur, phosphorus, nitrogen and the maximum carbon equivalent value do not exceed the values which are listed in the table below.

    The carbon equivalent value is calculated using the following formula:

    Ceq=C+(Mn/6)+(Cr+Mo+V)/5+(Ni+Cu)/15,

    where the symbols indicate the % by mass for each element (as determined by means of chemical analysis).

    Maximum allowable content of carbon, sulfur, phosphorus, nitrogen and maximum carbon equivalent value (% by mass) according to ELOT 971.
